Do we create our own reality?
Darn good question. “Reality” is a matter of interpretation. It depends on our thoughts, our “understanding”, and what believe “reality” should be (again, our thoughts).
Take for example, a vengeful man. Wherever he goes, he sees things that are “wrong”, and need to be addressed or corrected or punished. He takes offense easily, even when none is meant. He believes that people are inherently bad.
For him, his ideas shape the interpretation of events into something that fits his understanding. It is likely that because of his actions, he will continue to receive negative reactions from people, who may get angry at him, reinforcing his belief that “the world is bad”.
Take a kind, generous man. Wherever he goes he sees friendship and kindness, and he gives freely from a generous heart. He welcomes strangers, and sees everyone in a positive light. Even the vengeful man.
For him, his world view fills all that is around him with appreciation and goodwill. It is likely that because of his behavior, people around will return the kindness and goodwill he extends, reinforcing his belief that “the world is good”.
In the most fundamental ways, we “project” our worldview on events and people around us, shaping situations according to what we believe they should be (whether or not they actually are that way).
In that way, we DO create our own reality.
